Grampian Food Forum flies high at RAF Lossiemouth

Grampian Food Forum members were treated to a rare visit to one of the largest and busiest fast-jet bases operated by the Royal Air Force when they visited RAF Lossiemouth on Tuesday, August 26.

The aim of the event was to attract new food and drink businesses to engage with the Forum and explore the benefits that involvement can bring.

A number of food and drink producers, including Buckie-based Associated Seafoods Ltd., provided tasters and shared their experiences of how the Forum has benefited their business.

Commercial Director at Associated Seafoods Ltd., Henry Angus commented: “The Grampian Food Forum brings together the food and drink industry of north-east Scotland and we have found it a tremendously useful platform for helping us to develop new markets and improve our business.

“A particular advantage is that it enables us to work and communicate with other food and drink companies in the region to our mutual benefit.”

Vice chair of Moray Economic Partnership, James Johnston, said: “The food and drink sector is a mainstay of the Moray economy, and is home to world-renowned brands such as Walkers, Baxters and Benromach.

“The Grampian Food Forum supports the industry to continue to evolve and grow, serving an ever-diversifying market.

“It provides the opportunity for start-up and growing businesses to engage with established brands drawing on expertise and experience in matters such as logistics and exploiting export markets – showcasing collaboration within the industry at its best.”

“Our sincere thanks go to our host, Group Captain Mark Chappell and the personnel of RAF Lossiemouth for agreeing to support this showcase event - yet further evidence of the close relationship enjoyed between the local business community and our Armed Forces.”

Following an insightful tour of the RAF base, chairman of Grampian Food Forum, Keith Whyte, concluded the evening by reinforcing the message that all food and drink businesses in the region are welcome to participate.
