Major investment programme by Associated Seafoods set to be a focal point of interest at Brussels Seafood Expo
Associated Seafoods Ltd (ASL) will be highlighting to visitors at this year’s European Seafood Exposition in Brussels the significant supply benefits that will be delivered by its major multi million pound investment programme currently underway at its shellfish and Scottish smoked salmon processing facility in north-east Scotland.
The significant investment will see ASL create a state-of-the-art seafood production facility in Buckie that will enable the company to broaden its product portfolio and develop new value-added shellfish and smoked salmon products.
Under the development programme, ASL is upgrading its existing Moray Seafoods processing site in a move that will also enable its nearby Lossie Seafoods smoked salmon business to integrate into the facility and operate under the one roof. The development represents a significant economic boost for Buckie.
Victor West, managing director of ASL (Buckie), said: “The first phase of upgrading the shellfish production area is nearing completion and the second phase involving the smoked salmon operation will be up and running by the end of the summer.
“The new facility will help us deliver a really sharp focus on quality shellfish such as langoustines, langoustine tails, crabs and scallops. In particular the new development of a high class food manufacturing unit with cooking and added value facilities will enable us to innovate and develop an exciting new portfolio of seafood products.
“Our modern processing facility is strategically located close to the fishing grounds and we work in partnership with local fishermen and salmon farmers to ensure that only the best quality seafood is supplied to our customers.”
ASL’s Scottish smoked salmon operation exports to around 100 customers in 24 countries around the world, whilst the shellfish business exports primarily to Spain, France, Italy, Croatia and the Middle East. ASL is currently developing new markets for its seafood products in Russia and China.
ASL will be exhibiting in Hall 9 Stand 4117-E at the Brussels Seafood Expo, which runs from 23-25 April.
